Make Their Tails Wag: Women Leading Today, Moms Who Led the Way
Courtney and Whitney are back together for a special episode of Hey Sis, Eat This, highlighting the inspiring conversations Whitney recorded at The Room Women’s Leadership Summit. Featuring female marketers from Discover, Yoobi, Mindshare, Amazon, Maesa, and Expedia, who share stories of the women who shaped them—spotlighting moms, mentors, and lessons passed down through generations.
Clare Liston from Discover reflects on her mom’s trailblazing career in corporate filmmaking and the sacrifices she made. Courtney noted the power of Clare’s mom breaking barriers and both sisters lit up over her description of her sister never letting anyone “put a basket over her light.”
Sarah Leinberger from Yoobi shared her mom’s advice to always “make people’s tails wag.” Courtney said it perfectly described how she tries to bring positivity into every room, while Whitney joked she might start wagging her own tail when Lance gets home.
Katie Schnepf from Mindshare recalled her mom’s chicken and artichoke dish with flourless chocolate cake, a family birthday tradition. Whitney zeroed in on the “buttery artichoke sauce” while Courtney said she wanted the recipe too.
Sara Pedersen from Amazon spoke about the pride she feels mentoring her nieces and nephews, especially guiding her nieces into strong, confident women. Whitney related completely as an aunt, while Courtney said it takes a “village of women” to raise her two teen daughters and she’s thankful that they have their Aunt Mamu.
Vanessa Santana from Maesa honored her mother’s journey immigrating from the Dominican Republic and sacrificing her own dreams so her daughter could thrive. Whitney reflected on growing up without a career role model, while Courtney admired Vanessa’s mom’s strength in balancing family, culture, and career.
Finally, Laura Molnar from Expedia confessed that she doesn’t like Tex-Mex. Whitney jokingly threatened to end the friendship, while Courtney reacted with mock horror and teased that if Laura eats queso and margs, she doesn’t truly mean it.
Grab a seat, shake up that margarita, and join the sisters for stories that will stick with you long after the queso’s gone.
