Onions Almondine

This side dish is a Holiday Staple around our table! It's so yummy you'll want to serve it for any occasion.

Onions Almondine

Why it's on our list

This scrumptious side dish is a staple at every Ashley family Holiday! We are not entirely sure where the recipe comes from and has been modified by Momma Ashley over the years. It is a fantastic, make ahead side dish that freezes easy and tastes even better when reheated. While it makes a perfect accompaniment to turkey at Thanksgiving, we also love to serve it at dinner parties along side beef. The flavors are bold and the combination of sweet and savory complement any protein you chose to put it next to. It’s also not a common dish so it’s a unique side to serve if you’re looking for something a little different.

Ingredients

Serves 6

  • 1/2 cup butter

  • 1/2 cup blanched, slivered almonds

  • 1 TBS. dark brown sugar

  • 2 cloves garlic, pressed or grated

  • 1/2 tsp. salt

  • 1/4 tsp. pepper

  • 1/4 cup dry white wine or sherry (we use sherry)

  • 2 12-14 ounce packages of frozen pearl onions (DO NOT buy fresh or you'll spend 2 days peeling them)

Directions

Preheat over to 350°

Melt butter. Stir in almonds and brown sugar. Add garlic, seasonings and wine. Add onions and stir until well coated. Cover and bake at 350* for 1 hour, stirring or shaking pan occasionally to coat onions.

Serve it up!
