Elana Horwich's Sgroppino Cocktail

In the words of Chef Elana Horwich, the Sgroppino is a creamy, boozy, lemon slushy! In the words of the Ashley sisters, one sip and it has you longing to be beachside on the Amalfi Coast! More vodka please!

Elana Horwich's Sgroppino Cocktail

Why it's on our list

Elana generously taught Courtney and Whitney how to make this decadent and delicious cocktail. While we drank it as an aperitif, Elana explains that in Italy the Sgroppino is usually served as a dessert cocktail, because it's light and delicious and keeps your buzz going at the end of dinner. We love a good buzz!

She describes this cocktail as a combination of dessert, an after dinner drink and a cleansing of the palate. In Italy, some Sgroppino recipes call for lemon sorbet, while others call for lemon gelato. Elana's recipe settles on the perfect compromise by combining sorbet and vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

  • 1 pint of lemon sorbet

  • ½ pint of your favorite vanilla ice cream

  • 1 cup cold Prosecco

  • ¼ cup vodka zest of one lemon

  • lemon slices and mint for garnishing, optional

Directions:

Place the sorbet, ice cream, Prosecco, vodka, and lemon zest in a food processor or blender and pulse until well mixed.

Pour the mixture into champagne flutes or small glasses.

To garnish, cut a little groove in each lemon slice so it can be placed on the edge of each glass. Top with a sprig of mint.
